The Irish Spice Bag Comes To Cardiff At Neighbourhood Kitchen

Something spicy has arrived at our cosy Cardiff restaurant Neighborhood Kitchen & Cocktails! After a run of sell-out menus such as our famous Crawfish Boil, decadent £10 Lobster and Bottomless Gravy Fondue, we’re presenting a delicious street food menu with a firey twist: Irish Spice Bags!

At its core, the Irish Spice Bag is the ultimate Irish/Chinese street food featuring the perfect balance of heat, flavour, and crunch. You may have seen these bags of flavour all over the internet, and now it’s your chance to try them yourself from Wednesday 5th February – Saturday 1st March, only at Neighbourhood in Cardiff!

What can I expect from Neighbourhood's Irish Spice Bag?

The base of your spice bag starts with our in-house hand-cut fries, sauteed onions and peppers, but what happens next is entirely up to you! You can customise your Irish Spice Bag by adding crispy chicken, crispy beef, chip-shop scampi, Quorn strips or go big and opt for the House Special (a combination of them all!). Next, choose your seasoning, whether you like it mild or fiery, we have options to suit everyone. Finally, you’ll need something to dip everything in! Enjoy classic Chip Shop or Irish Curry sauce, Sweet & Sour, Sweet Chilli or Crispy Chilli Oil. Whether you pour, drizzle or dip, get all your mates to order something different so you can try a mix…

All of this is sealed tight in a bag, shaken to perfection and brought to your table for you to open up and enjoy.

But no Irish/Chinese feast is complete without some knock-out sides. This menu boasts the ultimate Prawn Toast, Sticky Chicken Wings, Pork Spare Ribs, crispy Spring Rolls and Char Siu Pork Buns to name just a few.

Need something to wash this all down with?

The Neighbourhood team have curated an extra special cocktail menu for you to enjoy including an alcoholic bubble tea and refreshing Lucky Buddha beers ice-cold out of the fridge. Finish the meal with a complimentary fortune cookie for a peek into your future, if you dare…

As an extra special treat, Neighbourhood Kitchen have also teamed up with Bristol-based brewery Lost and Grounded Brewers for a Six Nations deal. Every match day, you can pop into Neighbourhood and order an Irish Spice Bag paired with a refreshing pint of Lost and Grounded Helles Lager or Wanna Go To The Sun Pale Ale, to eat in or takeaway. In terms of match-day fuel, this one will be hard to beat!

The Tastiest Year Yet: Neighbourhood's 2023 Recap

What a year it has been for Neighbourhood Kitchen. As we prepare for another exciting year of culinary masterpieces, it’s only right we take a look at all the amazing traders and menus we have had in 2023. From camembert, to lobster, Veganuary to tacos and everything in between, it has been an absolutely mouth-watering year with a bunch of the some of the best street food traders Wales has to offer. Our loyal customers and local food lovers have been an absolute pleasure to serve and we can’t wait to see you all back for 2024!

Let's take a look at the year we’ve had:

Herbivore

What a better way to kick off the year than with delicious, healthy, flavourful VEGAN dishes! Everything you need and more to start your health-kick in the new year. No need to compromise on tastiness as Herbivore makes the most delicious small dishes which burst with flavours and spices. Who said veggies had to be boring? Simon did an excellent job and took Cardiff by storm as customers were flooding in all through the month.

Neighbourhood Burgers

This time bringing the cooking in-house, Neighbourhood launched their own burger menu. With a selection of hand-crafted burgers to suit everyone, using the finest cut chuck mince, buttermilk fried chicken and plant-based patties, they were stacked full of different toppings and flavours and were an absolute hit! They even had custom baked Neighbourhood branded buns!

As burgers and rugby go hand-in-hand, it was ideal that the six nations were on at the same time. So many fans enjoyed a mouth-watering Neighbourhood burger before watching the matches. What a great day!

Taco Del Barrio

Bringing a Mexican fiesta to Neighbourhood, Taco Del Barrio smashed it with a selection of flavourful tacos, tasty margaritas and banging sides. They even turned their whole menu gluten free so no-one had to miss out on the feast!  The people of Cardiff loved them, and so did we!

Pasta al Sugo

Serving handmade pasta, mouthwatering arancini balls and juicy Italian subs throughout April, Pasta Al Sugo really brought the amazing taste of Italy to Neighbourhood! With classics like the linguine carbonara or new dishes like the nduja ragu dog, they really covered all areas and offered an amazing menu!

Music May

Getting the summer vibes started, Music May was a mix of great artists, banging food and immaculate vibes! Each week a new trader and artist took over Neighbourhood to showcase their food and tunes. We saw some great collabs:

Banh mi x Sarnie Club menu partnered with the amazing Got Some, who brang the vibes with a great house and bass playlist, with the top tier Vietnamese sandwiches on offer.

Jollof House Party with Skunk Adelic, cooking up the best Nigerian street food along with a sick live DJ set with a mixture of afrobeats, hip hop, funk and soul. From Glastonbury Festival to Neighbourhood - he really brought the party.

The Real Ting and Bad Lion Sound System bought the vibes from Jamaican as Albert, the main man cooked up his popular Jamaican soul food, which went perfectly with his reggae and dancehall set which got the party going.

Tierra Tacos also took the stage with their signature big flavours and delectable Mexican dishes.

The Crawfish Boil

Who knew Cardiff had so many crustaceans lovers? Everyone couldn't wait to get their claws stuck into an authentic Louisiana style crawfish boil, with succulent crawfish, smokey sausage, juicy corn, tasty prawns and potatoes all doused in Bob's cajun rub and chucked onto the newspaper, Southern style.

The perfect meal to use your hands and get stuck in, and you guys loved it! We couldn't stop there…The annual Big Crawfish Boil was back at Tramshed for round 2 for the ultimate crawfish feast. What a day it was too, full of foodie fanatics, a huge feast of crawfish boil and southern sides, live music and flowing drinks. A summer's day well spent!

Mama Tiger

Adding a little spice to Neighbourhood, we have Mama Tiger who were serving their deliciously crafted, authentic Kolkatan food in Indian tiffin carriers. Being the new kids on the block in Cardiff’s food scene, they definitely made their place;  their curries and street food bites really got the taste buds tingling and truly showcased the delights of their magnificent cuisine.

Smoke and Embers

These Welsh legends brought top tier BBQ food to the kitchen, with mouth watering meats and perfectly paired sides. The pork belly burnt ends were to die for, glazed in a sticky sauce in a soft pretzel bun. Keep an eye out for these guys, they’re definitely not ones to miss.

£10 Lobster Menu

Need we say anything? The £10 lobster menu popped off! Selling out in record time, this feast was definitely a hit with the foodie lovers in Cardiff. So much so, the menu was extended for an extra 2 weeks…which also sold out! We don’t blame you, where else can you get a lobster for £10 which you can then upgrade and accompany with perfectly paired sides? The feedback on this menu was overwhelmingly great, it’s fair to say Cardiff loves a crustacean!

Mwg

Mwg made its debut and oh boy, we are glad they did! Bringing together Welsh food from land and sea and cooking it over an open charcoal fire. The passion project was a  creation of two best mates Tudor and Alex and a shared love for welsh produce, cooking and hospitality. They curated a menu of flavoursome small dishes with fresh ingredients and local produce. We can’t wait to see whether this venture goes!

Camembert Bar

Last, and definitely not least…the renowned Camembert Bar! Bringing the cheese lovers exactly what they wanted and needed in the festive season, a cheesy banquet! After a sellout the previous year, it was only right to bring it back, for an extended amount of time so everyone could indulge in gooey camembert, sumptuous toppings and naughty sides! It was a great way to round up the year and finish 2023 on a high!

We have loved every second of 2023 in Neighbourhood and love to see all our customers, new and old, enjoying the street food we bring to Cardiff. Of course, there is plenty more where that came from in 2024 and we can’t wait to show you what’s in store! Keep your eyes peeled for updates and we hope to see you all very soon!
